Control for Klark Teknik

Control for Klark Teknik

Stardraw applications support control - if a computer can communicate with a device, Stardraw can control it.

The first products to utilise this new technology are Klark Teknik's DN8000 and DN9849 units which were the principle processing devices used on the recent Diana Ross world tour.  Stardraw was used as the main sound system control interface

Controlling devices from Stardraw is simplicity itself: simply drag the symbol of the unit into a drawing and double-click on it. The unique control interface for the selected product will be displayed and you can adjust the unit's settings in whatever way you want.

If a computer can communicate with a device, Stardraw can control it.  The control interface can support any protocol and will even transmit and acquire data over the Internet.  The look of the interface is totally customisable by anyone with a working knowledge of HTML

What follows is a brief overview of the control interface built for the Klark Teknik DN 9848 Loudspeaker Processor.

The DN9848 is a four input, eight output configurable processor (click here for the full Klark Teknik spec).  Stardraw's control interface for this unit has been structured a number of screens or pages which give access to all of the unit's functions.

As many as 32 units can be connected to a single computer and controlled from Stardraw.  Any inputs, either on the same unit or across different units, can be grouped and controlled as a single input, the same applies to outputs.

Controlling the DN9848

1) Unit Shortcuts Page

This contains three sections allowing you to:

  • Select and mute individual units
  • Access pages controlling EQ, Dynamics and individual mutes for the inputs of the selected unit
  • Use shortcuts to EQ, Dynamics and mutes for outputs of the selected unit.

2) Main Setup Page

Main Setup Page

Controls the overall settings of individual units, for example unit name, address and signal routing.

3) Input Equalisation Page

Controls parameters for each signal input.  Using this page you can configure 8 parametric EQs per input and access the input dynamics page.

4) Input Dynamics Page

Input Dynamics Page

Controls the parameters for the input compressor, delay and level. Can be used to regulate individual and grouped inputs.

5) Crossover Filters Page

For each output  or group of outputs you can use this page to:

  • Configure Low and High Pass filter parameters.
  • Set Output Delay.
  • Access Output Phase control.
  • Access Frequency Correction and Loudspeaker Protection pages for the current Output or Group.
  • View a graphical representation of the frequency response.

6) Frequency Correction Page

Frequency Correction Page

For each output  or group of outputs you can use this page to:

  • Configure parameters for the Low EQ filter, Parametric filters and High EQ filter.
  • Flatten filter response.
  • Access the Crossover Filters and Loudspeaker Protection pages for the current Output or Group.
  • View a graphical representation of the frequency response.

7) Loudspeaker Protection Page

For each output  or group of outputs you can use this page to:

  • Set the Limiter Threshold
  • Meter  Output signal level and compressor gain reduction.
  • Switch the Limiter In and Out of Circuit.
  • Access the Cross-Over Filters and Frequency Correction pages for the determined Output or Group
  • View a graphical representation of the dynamics thresholds

8) Output Group Page

Output Group Page

Use this page to:

  • Select any defined group
  • Access the Crossover Filter, Frequency Correction and Loudspeaker Protection page for each group.
  • Access the Crossover Filter, Frequency Correction and Loudspeaker Protection page for each output in the group.
  • Assign a name to each output.
  • View meters showing input and output levels for each output and the group as a whole.
  • Mute each output or the group as a whole.

Using Groups

Group Frequency Correction

A major advantage of the control system is the ability it gives to set up individual inputs and outputs and then adjust settings incrementally across all the inputs/outputs in the group.  The group Frequency Correction page shows the response curves for all of the outputs in a group.  Using this page it is easy to make corrections to large sections of the system without having to adjust or reset individual channels.
