Stardraw Offers Online Libraries

As part of software provider Stardraw's ongoing Feature-per-Month program, a new capability called Online Libraries has been added to their family of design and documentation tools, namely Stardraw Audio, Stardraw AV, Stardraw Lighting 2D and Stardraw Radio. Users can now access product symbols directly from the internet, totally removing the need for long pre-emptive downloads.

Marketing Director Rob Robinson explained, “We add symbols for hundreds of products every month and historically Stardraw users have downloaded whole updates. These can be quite large, usually dozens of megabytes per month, and not all users have a need for the full update. By introducing Online Libraries we have given our users access to every symbol as soon as it becomes available. You can get the symbol that you want, when you want it, and after the first time it is downloaded, it will be stored and accessed locally.”

Stardraw have long advocated use of the internet as a complete software delivery system and Stardraw.net, introduced this year and described as the world's first online CAD application, follows the web-based ASP (Application Server Provision) model. With Online Libraries, Stardraw has reinvented their traditional applications as hybrid ASP/Standalone tools, drawing from the best of both worlds. In essence Stardraw users now have access to a live database of over 35,000 symbols, and once a symbol has been used, it becomes local.

Robinson continued, “This is a great enhancement for our users; not only are all symbols now available for use as soon as they're published, but you don't even need to take time out from the job in hand to get new updates – it just happens automatically and on demand. Even over a 56K dial-up connection, the average symbol downloads in 1.5 seconds. For schematic symbols this average drops to a staggering 0.14 seconds.“
