Stardraw launches web-based application
Software provider Stardraw.com is to launch the world's first web-based CAD system. Stardraw.net is a tool that allows one to design and document integrated systems through a browser using an on-line library of over 30,000 industry-specific symbols. Stardraw.net represents the introduction of web-based technology that incorporates tools and data for all of the niche markets addressed by Stardraw's conventional software packages including Stardraw Audio, Stardraw AV, Stardraw Lighting 2D, Stardraw Professional and Stardraw Radio; users can now customise their symbol sets drawing from any or all of the above libraries according to individual requirements.
Stardraw MD David Snipp explains "Our conventional applications have established the sorts of tools that integrators find easy to use and valuable for system design and documentation. The web-based application has been written from the ground up to provide comparable functionality, but it is designed to run within a web page. Furthermore it encompasses everything we have ever done within our conventional 2D applications across a variety of markets, making it all accessible under the single heading of Stardraw.net. This is brand new technology and Stardraw is excited to be the first company to our knowledge anywhere in the world to offer full CAD capability via the web."
Where traditional software is shipped on CD and installed, Stardraws web-based application is delivered through HTML pages, using tools which download themselves as and when they are needed. This means that all of the functionality, for instance Cut, Copy, Paste commands or drawing lines, is executed on the client side for speed, and symbols libraries, pricing etc are stored in databases on the server. An advantage of the client/server split is that even if your internet connection is broken, you can still continue to work and save your files locally.
Snipp continued, "We are showing this new technology to manufacturers and other corporate clients who are looking for flexible, scalable, custom software solutions. The beauty of a centralised, web-delivered application is that its very easy to maintain and update, and it can link to realtime data like pricing, stock levels and special offers. Our first custom web-based application, PanelBuilder, which went live on the RCI Custom website in June has already been a huge hit."
