Stardraw Previews New 3D Software
Software provider Stardraw opened their trade show season in a
confident mood with the first previews of a new design and
visualization package – Stardraw Lighting 3D.
Scheduled for release in Q3 the new application emerges as a
long-anticipated successor to Stardraw Professional which has been a
popular tool for Lighting Designers for the past five years. The new
application draws on the many advances Stardraw have made in the
realms of component-based and web-enabled software, as shown by
their family of standalone design and documentation tools and
Stardraw.net, and also capitalizes on the huge leaps seen in
graphics card capabilities in recent years.
Managing Director David Snipp said, “With Stardraw Lighting 3D we've
focused on speed and ease of use – when you're using the application
you can work on and move through your fully rendered design in
real-time. The experience is comparable to the latest generation of
first-person computer games, it is that fast.”
Like its predecessor, Stardraw Lighting 3D supports unlimited
objects, lightsources and textures, but adds rendering of lightbeams,
shadows, gobos and rotating gobos. Snipp continued, “We have been
able to add so much more to this application, and still improve
rendering speeds by a factor of twenty, thanks in part to the way
graphics cards have developed since our very first 3D application 10
years ago. In many cases your graphics card today is as powerful as
the computer's main CPU and we take advantage of everything that the
GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) has to offer. Stardraw Professional
was fast, but Stardraw Lighting 3D takes your breath away.”
The new application is scheduled for launch in the third quarter of
2003 and is expected to be delivered as an online application. Snipp
commented, “Our development strategy is to develop web-enabled
applications and deliver them using an Application Service Provider
(ASP) model. ASP is the way of the future and all of the giant
software houses are making promises about ASP tools. We have already
released software of this type, namely Stardraw.net, and Stardraw
Lighting 3D is to be the next member of our online family.”
