Stardraw Radio - it's "Cool Stuff"!

Stardraw is cool and, what's more, it's official! Stardraw Radio was selected from thousands of new products at NAB 2002 by a panel of veteran broadcast engineers, industry journalists and production experts to receive one of Radio World's "Cool Stuff" Awards. This highly coveted accolade is a worthy achievement in its own right, but even more so in light of the fact that Stardraw Radio represents Stardraw.com's very first entry into the broadcast market, an area in which the company was hitherto unknown.

Stardraw managing director David Snipp was delighted with the award. "It's always a slightly unsettling time trying to break into a new market where, in all honesty, no-one has even heard of you, so to receive this award for Stardraw Radio just two days after its launch is doubly gratifying. Not only does it prove to us that we've read the market right and that the industry is ready for a powerful software design and documentation system dedicated to the broadcast market, but it will make marketing a great package just that bit easier for us. We are very pleased to have been recognized in this way by one of the top industry publications, and at such an early stage."

Stardraw and RCI Custom Unveil PanelBuilder at NSCA

Panelbuilder Protoype Screen

RCI Custom chose NSCA as the launch platform for PanelBuilder, a new, web-based tool for design of custom control and connection panels, developed for them by Stardraw.com. PanelBuilder is hosted on the RCI Custom website and allows registered users to design, specify and purchase custom panels through an easy-to-use drag and drop interface. It becomes available for general use from May 1, 2002.

Managing Director of Stardraw, David Snipp, explained the background to the product, “RCI had long been aware of the capabilities of applications like Stardraw Audio, but it was a trade show conversation that made them realise Stardraw.com could develop an affordable custom solution.”

He continued “PanelBuilder is based on proven techniques seen in Stardraw applications for years, but it exploits leading-edge software and internet technology: it’s fast, easy to use, powerful and, frankly, sexy.”

PanelBuilder is resident on the web server and works from within a browser, so there’s nothing to download or install. It comprises a drag and drop interface linked to a complete library of all of RCI’s panel products so the user simply selects the panel he or she wants, drags on the connectors that are needed, and sets engraving, finishes, artwork and so on. The resultant design is linked in realtime to sophisticated backoffice systems so that a user will get an automated quote instantaneously.

For users of RCI Custom’s service, the advantages are clear – using PanelBuilder you can design a connector plate or panel in seconds without the need for complex CAD training and see exactly how it will look. You can get a price quote and drawing file for that panel immediately, any time of the day or night, even on weekends! The professional quality CAD drawing shows the panel exactly as it will look on completion, so you’re guaranteed to get the metalwork you want, without the need for a lengthy approval process. And because you can view your work as it is created, there’s little chance for error, and nothing’s left to the imagination. Finally, with linkage into RCI’s order-fulfilment system, PanelBuilder can even expedite the delivery process.

Snipp added, “OEM development of sophisticated systems like this is something Stardraw.com is very good at, and that’s been shown in recent awards. More and more manufacturers are finding they need to develop specialized software tools; the smart ones, like RCI Custom, realize they have to turn to a third party professional to get them on time, to spec, and within budget.”

A Record-Breaking NSCA

One of Stardraw's popular small group demos

Despite the impression of reduced overall attendance at this year's NSCA, the numbers and quality of booth attendees were excellent and Stardraw.com reports several milestones. President of Stardraw.com Inc, Randell Green comments, "Over the last nine years NSCA has always been a high point in our show schedule, but this year we had a bigger booth than ever before, delivered more demos than ever before, signed up more new users than ever before, got commitments from more manufacturers than ever before, and unveiled our first ASP product with RCI Custom. Clearly the systems integration marketplace is buoyant and Stardraw is consolidating its position as the market leader in design and documentation software."

Wheatstone Announces Support for Stardraw

Phil Owens and David Snipp

Following Stardraw.com's entry into the broadcast market at the recent NAB with Stardraw Radio which was considered innovative enough to carry away one of Radio World's much coveted "Cool Stuff" Awards, the Wheatstone Corporation has announced its full support of the Stardraw Radio package across its entire product range.

The partnership between Stardraw and manufacturers such as Wheatstone offers both parties a way of adding value to their products and supporting their customers. According to Stardraw managing director David Snipp, "We are delighted that Wheatstone as one of the premier suppliers to the broadcast industry has recognized the benefit of a strategic alliance with Stardraw so quickly. As a result we are both able to provide an even better service for our customers."

Sales engineer for Wheatstone, Phil Owens, agrees. "Today's radio consolidation projects involve increasingly complex integration of consoles, routers and peripheral equipment," he said. "Stardraw gives me the tools to generate high quality pre-sales engineering documents and incorporate that information into our production phase documentation. The symbols libraries (which will soon include the entire Wheatstone product line) not only help to streamline our own documentation process but also allow our key market place even greater access to our products in a way that will improve their business. Stardraw Radio is a very powerful product"

Stardraw goes Creative

Andrew Rosenberg (2nd left) receives

the inaugural copy of Stardraw Radio

In recognition of the advisory role Andrew Rosenberg of Colorado-based Creative Studio Solutions Inc played during Stardraw Radio’s development phase, and to celebrate its launch, Stardraw.com has presented Andrew with the very first Stardraw Radio package at the product’s debut at NAB 2002.

Creative Studio Solutions designs and installs both traditional and internet broadcasting facilities as well as production and recording studios. As a long-time user of Stardraw Audio, and therefore familiar with the concept, Rosenberg was able to offer invaluable advice on manufacturers, features and symbols that broadcast professionals would like to see in an industry specific software package.

Stardraw managing director David Snipp commented, "Following Andrew's input it seemed only fair that the first copy should go to him with our thanks and our compliments. We know he'll put it to good use!" Rosenberg agreed. "The industry has been waiting a long time for a package like this that will enable systems integrators to be far more efficient and productive. With the success that Stardraw has had in other markets such as audio and AV, they were the obvious people to approach, and yet again they've come up with an award-winning product. I agree with Radio World – it's definitely cool stuff!"
