Feature per Month program

This month's new feature is File-Driven Library List: with a fundamental re-working of the Library list it's now much easier to organise the manufacturers and products that the Library List displays.

Previously, the Library List was built using the 'document long name' of Stardraw symbol files.  This long name is now ignored and the Library List shows the folders and filenames of symbols in a way that is similar to Windows Explorer.  The added advantages of this update are:

  • The "Refresh Libraries" command is now instantaneous
  • You can re-arrange and even delete files and folders using Windows Explorer

Library Directories are used as before and they specify the root or first level of the Library List.  The contents of the Library List will be exactly the same as the sub-folders and files found below each Library Directory.

If you use Windows Explorer to make changes within the Library Directories while Stardraw is running you just need to Refresh Libraries to update the Library List.  Stardraw refreshes the Library List on startup so any changes you make to the folder structure without Stardraw running will be shown the next time you start the program.

Stardraw Radio announced

Stardraw has chosen NAB 2002 as the launch forum for the first software design and documentation product dedicated to the broadcast market. Stardraw Radio is based on the same powerful engine that has brought success to the company's other vertical niche market packages which include Stardraw Audio, Stardraw AV and Stardraw Lighting 2D.

The new application boasts a library of over 10,000 high quality, industry specific symbols, proven drawing tools, full DWG compatibility, advanced reporting facilities and an interface that is “so easy, even a salesman can use it”. Regular updates add hundreds of new symbols and a new program feature every month.

Stardraw Radio has been developed with input from industry experts including Andrew Rosenberg of Colorado-based Creative Studio Solutions, Inc. CSS designs and installs both traditional and internet broadcasting facilities as well as production and recording studios. Rosenberg, a long-time user of Stardraw Audio, was able to offer advice on manufacturers, symbols and features that broadcast professionals would like to see in an industry-specific software package. According to Stardraw's MD David Snipp, Rosenberg's input was very timely. "We had been thinking about launching a broadcast product for some time. When Andrew called with a query on Stardraw Audio we felt that, rather than leaving him to customize his existing program, it would be the perfect time to develop Stardraw Radio with all the tools and symbols he needed."

Rosenberg agrees. "Stardraw Radio is exactly what the broadcast industry needs. It has all the great features of the leading applications in other markets but with a broadcast twist, and I think we can look forward to it becoming a new standard for design and documentation of radio systems."

Stardraw welcomes new team member

Kevin Harrison

Stardraw.com is pleased to announce the recent appointment of Kevin Harrison to the position of Symbols Manager. Harrison has many years of experience in the audio and AV industry including several years of involvement with Stardraw.com, so this appointment represents the formalisation of his role within the Stardraw organisation.

Stardraw’s Symbols Manager is the prime point of contact for any manufacturer who wishes to participate in the symbols libraries, and for end users asking for library additions through the free "Symbols-By-Request" service. In this role Harrison heads up the team responsible for symbols generation and enforces the qualitative standards to which all symbols must adhere.

Stardraw MD David Snipp commented, "The quality of our symbols is a crucial element of what makes Stardraw unique and sets us apart from our competitors. It was therefore a logical step to formalise Kevin’s position as Symbols Manager. We've worked together for many years, so we're delighted to be able to give him the recognition he deserves." Manufacturers and Stardraw end users can request and submit symbol information to symbols@stardraw.com
