Why Does the LiveUpdate or Synchronize Manufacturers Process Fail to Complete?
The LiveUpdate and Synchronize Manufacturers processes perform certain low-level tasks on your
computer so you need to be sure that you have the right permissions,
connections and tools for the computer you are working on.
a) Administrative Privileges
Ensure that you have logged onto your computer as a user with Administrative Privileges. Administrative
Privileges are required since LiveUpdate must edit your Registry settings and may need to register .Dlls. Contact
your system administrator or refer to your Windows documentation for more on Administrative Privileges.
b) Manual Proxy Server Settings
If you are using a Proxy Server you must disable manual Proxy Server settings. Internet Explorer is
normally smart enough to work out Proxy Server settings automatically and any manual settings will interfere
with LiveUpdate. Follow this procedure to disable manual Proxy Server settings:
i.) |
Close all Internet Explorer windows |
ii.) |
Open Internet Explorer |
iii.) |
Select Tools | Internet Options... |
iv.) |
Go to the Connections tab |
v.) |
Click on LAN Settings |
vi.) |
Uncheck "Use a proxy server...." |
vii.) |
Repeat the
LiveUpdate process |
If you cannot connect to the internet through your LAN without manual Proxy Server settings you
must connect directly using a dial-up, ISDN or DSL connection.
c) Browsers and Download Accelerators
LiveUpdate requires Internet Explorer 5 or later. Download accelerators such as Mozilla
or Netscape SmartDownload must be disabled.
d) Operating Systems
LiveUpdate requires Windows 98SE, ME, 2000, XP or later. You should ensure that you have the latest version
of your operating system by performing a
Windows Update
